Step 1. Selection by flow rate
Less than 3mL/min | RD2 or RD4 with ultrasonic "debubbler" |
3 to 300mL/min | RD2 or RD4 |
10 to 1000mL/min | RD2I or RD4I with ultrasonic "debubbler" |
100 to 1000mL/min | RD2I or RD4I |
1 to 10L/min | RD2I or RD4I with a splitter |
Step 2. Selection by conductivity and pH
Conductivity and pH are not needed | RD2 or RD2I |
Conductivity is needed but pH is not | RD4 or RD4I |
Both conductivity and pH are needed | RD5 or RD5I |
Step 3. Selection by wavelength
This detectors could measure at one or two wavelengths. Choose the needed value(s) in a particular product page. Standard values are 250 and 280nm (the least expensive). However, other values in range 235nm to 1000nm are possible.
Step 4. Selection by Refractive index
RI could be inexpensively added to any detector. Please note: because the flow cell is not thermostated (only the internal optics is) the RI provided is not as sensitive as in dedicated HPLC RI detectors. Usually, one can observe 100mg/L (and up) of polyethylene glycol in water. Also, this RI is useful for sucrose gradient separations.
Step 5. Selection by fraction collection
You are collecting a few large volume fractions | Please consider ordering valves, as many as your fraction count plus one (usually waste stream). This is EXTREMELY useful if you do the same separation over and over again. Low hold up volume valves are made entirely from PTFE and are installed underneath of the detectors. Detector can be programmed by an user to open a valve when a set of conditions is met (example: change the flow from waste stream to the second receptacle when optical density at 280nm exceeded say 0.5 OD and 30min had already passed). More about valves |
You are collecting many low volume fractions | A third party fraction collector can be interfaced to any detector. Please order a specific fraction collector cord. Any detector can accept "fraction changed" electrical pulse (or an intermittent contact closure) from the fraction collector. The moment of the fraction change is shown on the detector screen as a numbered tick-mark and is also indicated in the data table exported by the detector. |
